Emergency medical assistance is provided at Vienības gatve 45. The Emergency Medical Assistance and Observation Department (NMPON) works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The initial assessment of the patient is performed by the doctors's assistant, assessing the severity of the patient's health condition and assigning the appropriate category of urgency.
- Patients assigned category 1 - RED are immediately taken to the treatment area.
- For patients assigned category 2 - ORANGE, the waiting time until re-evaluation is 15 minutes.
- Patients assigned category 3 - YELLOW, waiting time until re-evaluation – 60 minutes.
- Patients assigned category 4 - GREEN, waiting time until re-evaluation – 240 minutes.
- For patients assigned category 5 - WHITE, the waiting time until re-evaluation is unlimited.
Please note that during certain hours of the day, the flow of patients in the Emergency Department increases episodically and you may have to wait in line. If the child's health deteriorates during the waiting period, please contact the doctor's assistant immediately. Inform the doctor's assistant if the child has an allergic reaction after taking the medication.
Treatment area
Upon arrival at the treatment area, patient care is started by a nurse who measures the child's temperature, counts the frequency of breathing and heart rate. If the flow of patients is intense, the doctor's examination may have to wait depending on the degree of urgency assigned to the patient.
While in the Emergency Department, according to the child's state of health, the doctor may order examinations, manipulations or specialist consultations. In certain situations, if the child's health condition is not in danger and the examination does not need to be performed immediately, the doctor can recommend to perform the necessary examinations on an outpatient basis.
The child's stay in the Emergency Department usually does not exceed 24 hours. In this department, children are kept for short-term treatment and observation. If longer observation or treatment is required, the patient is hospitalized in one of the hospital's departments.
In order for the doctor in the Emergency Department to evaluate the child's health more successfully, please consider the following questions in advance:
- When did the child get sick?
- What are the main complaints?
- Has the child been vaccinated according to age?
- What allergic reactations have been observed for the child?
- Do you have any co-morbidities (diabetes, bronchial asthma, epilepsy, etc.)?
- How much liquid has the child taken in the last 24 hours?
- When was the last urination?
Until the doctor's examination, please do not feed or give something to drink to the patient, as it is necessary to assess whether the child will need surgical intervention under general anesthesia.
The hospital supports the presence of parents with the child, but given the specifics of the Emergency Department and the relatively short length of stay, parents are not offered a separate bed. Only one of the parents can stay with the child in the hospital, but it is possible to replace each other during the child's treatment process. At the same time, we invite you to inform the medical staff about it.
Taking into account the relatively short stay in the department, as well as various illnesses, patients are not provided with meals. The staff offers yogurt and tea for children.
